Located in Westminster, Maryland – just a short drive from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore – the Main Campus of McDaniel College offers students an ideal blend of academic excellence and unique opportunities for internships, cultural experiences, and leisure activities.
On a scenic 160-acre campus, the college features 40 buildings and several athletic facilities, including gyms, a fitness center, a swimming pool, volleyball, basketball, squash, and tennis courts, a soccer field, a golf course, and the Green Terror’s official college football stadium. Campus facilities also include the 170,000-volume Hoover Library, equipped with study rooms, audiovisual media, and microcomputing centers; a state-of-the-art STEM Center; a modern photographic laboratory; a graphic arts computer classroom; a Rec Lounge; an Art Gallery; and a Writing Center. At Westminster, approximately 85% of students reside on campus, most participating in the traditional full-board plan.
McDaniel College offers a wide range of specialization: 58 major and 54 minor fields of study. The relatively small student body of 1,700 undergraduates enables the college to care about its students in a personal way, both for the truly exceptional students and for those who experience difficulties and need advice or help.
McDaniel College, Westminster, MD, was founded in 1867, and is one of the first coeducational colleges in the United States. It was originally named after the Western Maryland Railroad Company, whose president offered a generous donation for the construction of the first residence halls on College Hill in Westminster, the seat of Carroll County, in Maryland. In 2002, the college was renamed to honor William Roberts McDaniel, a distinguished member of the community – a graduate, later professor, President and Trustee in the first decade of the 20th century – whose leadership greatly contributed to the growth of the institution.
The International Programs Office (a key part of the Center for Experience & Opportunity) of the Maryland Campus assists international students in their transition from the Budapest Campus and other countries to Westminster, as well as throughout their stay at the College. Kerriann Ring, Assistant Director of International & Off-Campus Programs, serves as the international student advisor and assists with issues of personal and cultural adjustments as well as academic concerns. In addition, several students of the Maryland campus work as Study Abroad Coordinators to help students better integrate to the life “on the Hill.”
The International Programs Office is also the main campus resource center for all students interested in study abroad opportunities, assisting with application processes and program selection. In addition to numerous international programs worldwide, McDaniel College offers the Budapest Study Abroad Program, enabling U.S. students to study at the college’s branch campus in Hungary for a semester or an academic year, immersing themselves in Hungarian culture and academics.
Feel free to contact Kerriann Ring and visit McDaniel, Maryland web page for more information about McDaniel College and the application process.
