Budapest, and Hungary in general, is one of the main hotspots for music in the summer. Sziget Festival is aimed for lovers of all music genres, whereas Balaton Sound is focused mostly on electronic music. Yet this lovely city is able to satisfy the thirst of those who cannot afford to wait until the summer to see some of their favorite artists, producers, and DJs perform. On February 15th, it was a delight for trap and future bass music lovers as American DJ and producer Tyler Marenyi, better known as “NGHTMRE”, performed a set in front of a large crowd in one of the more unknown clubs of Budapest for the foreigners, Barba Negra. NGHTMRE was mostly known for his remixes of Showtek’s “We Like To Party” and more recently for his collaborations with Dillon Francis in making “Need You” and “Another Dimension”. For those who are not into this music genre, it might be tough to enjoy this show as it requires a completely different level of energy and passion for this type of music to get into the atmosphere. The venue, Barba Negra, is open air, but the rooftop was covered as it is the winter, with areas to simply relax, sit down and enjoy a cold beer with your friends, and the main stage which can host a large crowd ready to rave.
The event was organized by NEXT LEVEL, a brand based in Hungary that organizes music events throughout the country. On top of NGHTMRE, the resident DJs of every NEXT LEVEL event: Dublic, B’Andre, Skrude, Sammie Beats, and Myamo, also performed before the main act took the stage. If you do not want to miss the next big electronic music gig, make sure to check the NEXT LEVEL Facebook page for upcoming events. The next one I recommend attending- which is similar in style- will be on Saturday, March 3 at Durer Kert, where Danish DJ and producer Snavs, along with a long list of other DJs will give you a rave to never forget. So, while you’re here in Budapest and you are missing the festival vibes, going to these gigs might be the cure.
