Paint your face and take your jersey out of the closet because it’s time to cheer again! The Rugby World Cup is in full swing and it’s certainly not disappointing its fans. From the opening match, New Zealand vs Tonga (42-10), to Italy vs Russia (53-17), New Zealand vs Japan (83-7), South Africa’s 87-0 drubbing of Namibia and Ireland’s shock win against the mighty Australians (15-6), to mention just a few of the exciting games, fans have had multiple rushes of adrenalin shoot through their bodies and very good reasons to refill their pint glasses.

Even though there have been some disappointing events, including the suspension of Fiji’s Waqaniburotu for 3 weeks due to an act of foul play and some injuries to the likes of Australia’s David Pocock who’s out with a back injury and Ireland’s Jerry Flannery with a muscle injury, Rugby showed the world once again its true nature, a rough, beastly, manly sport played by gentlemen. The World Cup Final will be on October 23 and until then fans can enjoy many matches and try to guess who will reach the quarter finals. This weekends matches will be England vs Romania (Sep 24 at 8 am), New Zealand vs France (Sep 24, 10.30 am). However, the most anticipated match of the week (at least in Pool C) was Australia vs USA, an upcoming force in Rugby not traditionally associated with the game at the highest level. The Aussies, the struggling two-time champions who had to win to progress, were threshing the Americans as we went to press. For those of you who don’t have lessons in the morning and would love to watch the matches, Caledonia (Scottish pub, Mozsar utca 9) and Becketts (Irish pub, Bajcsy Zsilinszky út 72) show all the matches, and also offer some yummy breakfasts and, only in the latter, the chance to meet many cute Irish blokes. How about pretending to like rugby, ladies?
