One more place for Budapest to be proud of: first place in a Lonely Planet organized vote for the world’s best bar goes to the A38, a Danube River boat, docked next to the Petőfi Bridge.

A38 won first place with 13,300 votes in its favor. Second place went to De Witte Aap (White onkey), Rotterdam, and third place to another Budapest locale, the famous Szimpla Kert. The contest was organized by Lonely Planet, and included 20 countries and the best bars and clubs from each of them.

Artyomovsk 38 is a Ukrainian ship which was refurbished in 2003. That year Maceo Parker inaugurated the new bar with an amazing performance, and today the bar, restaurant and club are known as A38.

When you board the boat for the first time, you feel like the party voyage begins right there. The bar has reasonable prices, competitive with other Budapest clubs and bars. A38`s concerts are planned for 650 people only, including the VIPs, in the bow of the ship; the VIPs get a separate bar. The party organizers and managers try to fill the house and rent out the place only for marquee acts sure to fill the house.

The restaurant is a very pleasant place above the dance floor surrounded by glass, and a dinner is very beautiful and romantic, because of the many sparkling lights along Danube River. The excellent kitchen is directed by Zeibing Marton who shifted from a diplomat to a cook and Halasz Istvan.

Today A38 also functions as a gallery where many expositions of art, photography, movies and music are displayed for the public. The A38 proudly advertises itself as The World’s Best Club; they are absolutely right.
