St. Patricks day is coming up next Saturday on the 17th of March and it’s certainly not avoidingBudapest. So if you like the Irish, Guinness or simply a good time, be sure to check out what’s in store for you this weekend.

For starters, the Irish Hungarian Business Circle, a non-profit organization made to facilitate Irish Hungarian business and social networks is organising a St. Patricks Day parade. It will start with a gathering at noon on the 17th at Szabadság tér, where revellers will have their faces painted in the green, white and orange of the Irish tricolour flag and a number of activities before the parade that sets off at 2pm. The parade will arrive at Akvarium (used to be Godor) where there will be Irish music, performances and food.

After the parade you cold drop by one of a couple bars that will be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day in Budapestfor a beer or one of Ireland’s smooth triple-distilled whiskeys. Classic places to enjoy the craic and a pint or two of plain include Becketts Irish Pub, Guinness House a.k.a. Jack Doyle’s, the Irish Cat Pub andCaledonia; the latter which despite being Scottish has a promotion on Irish Whiskey throughout March.

As part of the St. Patricks Day festivities, the IHBC is also organising a number of cultural and social events starting from the 14th with a “Gift of the Gab” public speaking competition. The day before St. Patricks, on the 16th, a popular Irish play “Stones In His Pockets” will b
