Entry for Long Stay (exceeding 90 days) for the Purpose of Studies and Terms of Payment
Foreign nationals from “visa free” countries* may enter Hungary for the purpose of studies for a longer period of time without having to apply for an entry visa. They will, however, be required to apply for a residence permit within three months on arrival. Download “The application form for residence permit”.

Registration of address on arrival

You are required to report the address of your place of residence in Budapest to the Immigration Office at Szegedi út, not later than 30 days upon your arrival in Hungary. You need to report your new address to the Immigration Office every time that you change your place of residence. You will need the following documents for registration:

• your passport
• photocopies of the page in your passport with your personal data and the date of expiry of the passport, plus the page with the Hungarian student visa
• original lease contract of the apartment in Hungarian,
• property sheet (title deed) of the apartment (which the owner of the apartment must obtain for you from the Regional Land and Real Estate Registry Office)

Application for the residence permit

You will be required to submit your application for a residence permit to the Immigration Office within three months on arrival. The residence permit is usually granted for a period of one year, and it has to be renewed before it is due to expire (the application for the extension has to be submitted at least one month prior to the date of expiry of the residence permit). Students are required to declare on the application form that they do not suffer from AIDS, leprosy, lues (veneral disease), tuberculosis, or typhoid diseases, nor are they carriers of HIV, typhoid or paratyphoid. The following documents will be required for the residence permit:

• Certificate of Enrollment from McDaniel College Budapest in Hungarian
• your passport valid for a duration of at least six month longer than the period of stay you are applying for
• lease contract for the apartment in Hungarian – two copies (it has to specify the landlord’ s and your personal data – date and place of birth, mother’ s maiden name, permanent address, landlord’ s ID number, your passport No. The contract has to be signed by two witnesses of Hungarian citizenship)*
• title deed (property registry sheet) of the apartment (tulajdoni lap) to be provided by the owner or the agency (original document, not older than one month)
• one passport-size color photo
• a fee of EUR 110 through Enter Hungary website (https://enterhungary.gov.hu/eh/?en)
• proof of financial means ensuring livelihood in Hungary (bank statement about the balance of your credit/debit card, cash, or a written declaration about the sources of the funds that you can count on to cover your living expenses . It is advisable to open a bank account in Hungary and verify a current balance of at least EUR 1,500-2,000. You should also attach receipts of the sums you have drawn from ATMs since your arrival. (When you apply for the renewal of your residence permit, you will have to attach a summarized history of the transactions on the account in the previous six months. The last six statements of your account mailed monthly by the bank or ATM receipts from the previous six months are also acceptable).
• certification of valid medical insurance coverage in Hungary for the whole period to be covered by the residence permit

Terms of payment

The tuition fee should be received by McDaniel College Budapest in two equal installments prior to the date of registration for classes–that is, payment for the coming semester. Students who do not meet their payment obligation will not be allowed to register for courses and attend classes. If the tuition fee does not arrive at the bank account of McDaniel College Budapest by the end of the second week of the semester (deadline for course drops) at the latest, the student concerned will not be allowed to enroll for the given semester. In Budapest, the tuition fee may be paid in cash to the bank account of McDaniel at one of the branch offices of MBH Bank.
The tuition fee is EUR 7,900 per year for the first two years and EUR 8,600 per year for the upper two years if you wish to complete your studies in Budapest. The rates for the main campus in Westminster, Maryland, U.S.A. are higher.

Please note that McDaniel College Budapest cannot issue the certificate of enrollment, unless you have paid the tuition fee in advance for at least the first semester of the academic year to be covered by the residence permit.
